FAIR region model

Calculations at the level of 26 IMAGE world regions using existing baseline scenarios for population, GDP and emissions (without climate policy) of the TIMER energy model and the IMAGE climate model and the global emission pathways for stabilisation of greenhouse gas concentrations of the FAIR-SIMCAP model (see below). The model also uses marginal abatement cost (MAC) curves from both the energy- and industry-related carbon dioxide emissions modelled by the TIMER energy model and the carbon plantations of the IMAGE climate model. The MAC curves for the non-CO2 greenhouse gases are based on the EMF-21 study, but extended to 2050-2100 based on technology change assumptions.

This model is an integral part of the IMAGE framework, especially designed for developing and analyzing mitigation scenarios required to stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations and studying the possible environmental and economic consequences of such scenarios, as described in van Vuuren et al. (2007a).
