General information on the Emission Database for Global Atmospheric Research (EDGAR) - V2
IntroductionEDGAR Version 2.0 consists of: (a) fossil-fuel related sources and (b) biofuel combustion, both on a per country basis; (c) industrial production and consumption processes (including solvent use) also on a per country basis; (d) landuse-related sources, including waste treatment, partially on a grid basis and partially on a per country basis; and (e) natural sources on a grid basis. The EDGAR database can generate global, regional and national emissions data in various formats. For all compounds and sectors this can be done for 1990, except for CO2 and N2O from fossil use and industrial processes, for which a time series 1971-1992 can be calculated and for global total consumption and emissions of halocarbons for which a time series, generally from the start year of the production, can be generated. For external use of EDGAR data essentially two types of standard emission data files are provided via FTP: gridded emissions per compound and per sector and summary tables per compound in which per source and per region the emissions are specified. Only data for 1990 are provided, except for halocarbons, for which 1986 is the reference year. In the menu you will find more information regarding the coding and definition of data files, source categories, world regions, and compounds as well as the structure of the EDGARV20 directory. In addition, summary information can be found on the origin of the data, where more background data can be found, and on the extent to which the dataset has been validated. Furthermore you will find information on the uncertainty of the data and a disclaimer. Finally, we like to draw your attention to the acknowledgement of organizations and persons who we are greatful for providing information or funding, without which the compilation of this comprehensive database would not have been possible. Please, read the caveats carefully prior to using EDGAR data. This file provides more information on limitations that may exist for specific compounds or source sectors, that may not be self evident, or other caveats that were identified to date.
