Aim of IMAGE

The Integrated Model to Assess the Global Environment (IMAGE) is a dynamic integrated assessment modelling framework for global change. IMAGE aims at contributing to scientific understanding and supporting decision-making by quantifying the relative importance of major processes and interactions in the society-biosphere-climate system.

IMAGE 2.4 marks an important milestone on the development path towards a next generation model, referred to as IMAGE 3, aimed – to a larger extent – at capturing the different aspects and domains of sustainability. Emphasis here is on the ecological domain but is also related to economic and social domains. IMAGE pursues this aim by providing:

  • dynamic and long-term perspectives on the systemic consequences of global change
  • insights into the impacts of global change
  • a quantitative basis for analysing the relative effectiveness of various policy options addressing global change.
