Consortium - Participating Institutes

The WAB programme collects and assesses relevant scientific information for policy development and decision-making in the area of climate change. Resolutions and decisions made within the WAB programme are also analysed for their effects in the framework of international climate actions. The WAB programme is carried out in cooperation with six other institutes in the Netherlands: Climate Change on Biosphere -Wageningen University & Research Centre (CCB-WUR), Copernicus Institute - Utrecht University, International Centre for Integrated assessment and Sustainable development - ICIS (University of Maastricht), Climate Centre - Vrije Universiteit and the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute.

The Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL)
PBL supports national and international policymakers by analysing the impacts of societal trends and policies on the environment. PBL provides independent integrated assessments on topics such as sustainable development, energy and climate change, biodiversity, transport, land use and air quality. The PBL acts as the interface between science and policy.

Climate Change and Biosphere centre Wageningen (CCB-WUR)
CCB-WUR is the formalisation of a long-time collaboration between Wageningen University and the DLO institutes in the field of biospheric aspects of climate change. Seven organisations of Wageningen-UR participate in the CCB: Alterra - Green World Research, Wageningen Institute for Environment and Climate Research (WIMEK), Production Ecology & Resource Conservation Graduate School (PE & RC), ATO - Agrotechnical Research Institute, IMAG - Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering, Plant Research International and the Agricultural Economics Research Institute (LEI). CCB's research focuses on: interaction and feedback mechanisms between regional climate(change) and land use and ecosystems; greenhouse gases and soil, vegetation and the atmosphere; and socio-economic evaluation of (inter)national climate policies. CCB takes part in national and international climate research and evaluations of climate policies.

Copernicus Institute for Sustainable Development and Innovation (UU)
The Copernicus Institute is an interfaculty  research instiute of Utrecht University (UU). The Institute aims to support the search for sustainable development and innovation through the development of knowledge, methods and instruments. A specific character of the institute is the combination of developing solid scientific knowledge and experience in the field of specific technical and scientific issues as well as the field of processes of change and innovation. The Copernicus Institute houses a wide range of disciplines, with researchers from the natural and social sciences. There is input from the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, technology, economy, ecology, hydrology, soil science, geography, environmental sciences, innovation science, sociology, policy science, and business studies.

Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN)
The Energy research Centre (ECN) of the Netherlands, the largest research centre in the Netherlands in the field of energy. The research centre carries out research in the field of energy. With this work the researchers move between fundamental research at universities and appliance of knowledge and technologies in practice. This work has a huge impact on daily life. For example, solar systems are placed on roofs of houses and modern wind mills are spinning in the field by means of technology developed by ECN.

International Centre for Integrated assessment and Sustainable development (ICIS)
ICIS is an interfaculty  research instiute of Maastricht University  that addresses complex issues facing the planet and its inhabitants. Its aims are to conduct research and provide education in the fields of integrated assessment and sustainable development. ICIS researchers in the natural and social sciences work together in pursuit of solutions to real world problems. Such integrative studies involve analysis of the causes, effects and the mutual interlinkages between economic, environmental, institutional and socio-cultural processes associated with a specific environment or complex issue (e.g. tourism, health, water, mobility). These interdisciplinary analyses complemented with participatory processes involving stakeholders usually form the basis for the development of visions and long-term strategies.

Climate Centre of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (CCVUA)
Earth System Science and Climate Change is a priority field at the Vrije Universiteit with many faculties and internationally leading researchers involved. The Climate Change Centre (CCVUA) brings these groups together and strengthens the interaction with society on this crucial and controversial topic.  Internationally leading research groups at the Vrije Universiteit include Paleo-climate research, Ecosystems and hydrology research, Mitigation and Scenario studies and Adaptation research.

The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI)
KNMI is the national institute for weather, climate research and seismology. It disseminates weather information to the public at large, the government, aviation and the shipping industry in the interest of safety, the economy and a sustainable environment. To gain insight into long-term developments, KNMI conducts research on climate change. Making the knowledge, data and information on hand at KNMI accessible is one core activity. KNMI is an agency of the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management (Ministerie van Verkeer & Waterstaat). KNMI's duties are set forth in KNMI Act (Wet op het KNMI).
