Nature-based solutions are actions to protect, sustainably manage and restore ecosystems that simultaneously provide human well-being and biodiversity benefits. These solutions are key for addressing many of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This website informs decision makers about the potential of applying nature-based solutions in addressing global sustainability challenges. By linking potential global pathways to 2050, solutions and inspiring cases, this website showcases how global sustainability goals can be connected to local level actions that can help to not only conserve and restore nature, but also build back better and greener in a post-pandemic and more uncertain world.
Assessing potential future environmental changes helps policymakers decide where to take action and understand potential policy effects. Three scenarios are presented. The business-as-usual scenario shows the impact of potential future developments, while two policy scenarios show the potential of restoration, and the portfolio of transformative action (including restoration) towards achieving the SDGs.
A wide range of tried and tested nature-based solutions - for both restoring and conserving ecosystems as well as for improving land-use management - are now available. Explore further for an overview of solutions that have proven themselves in different landscapes.
Restoration and improved land use management are already being implemented on the ground. Explore further for inspiring restoration stories that highlight the use of different solutions across various landscapes and showcase what the global perspective can look like at the local level.
