Land Use Data
It is clear that the human sphere of influence on world’s natural environment has increased during the last few centuries at a staggering rate. Dramatic increases in population numbers boosted the need for more space for food en fodder production. Nations began to explore the globe and colonized other regions. Land used for crops and ranching expanded globally at the cost of predominantly forests and natural grasslands. The temporal and spatial components of this expansion are reconstructed and presented in the Land Cover section, the area's and yield of the main agricultural crops can be found in the 'Agriculture' section. Furthermore, estimates of livestock numbers, fertilizer use and food consumption are presented as well.
